Job Description

The Role

Proofpoint is seeking a Senior Sales Engineer to join our field Sales Engineering team supporting Named Accounts in the Pacific North West. As a Senior Sales Engineer, you will be one of the most important members of the Proofpoint sales team, working with Marketing as well as Engineering to improve the products and meet market demands. You will be our customers technical liaison and ensure that our products are positioned correctly to solve critical business challenges.

In conjunction with assigned Account Manager(s), you will be responsible for conducting in-person product demonstrations, as well as delivering successful Proof-of-Concept (POC) and Production Evaluation programs with current and prospective customers. Candidates for this role should be located in the San Francisco / Bay Area.

Your day-to-day

  • You will act as the Technical Sales Lead throughout the pre-sales cycle, by owning and driving product demonstrations, POC and evaluations to success.
  • You will assist the sales teams to develop and execute specific account penetration strategies.
  • You will get to know your customers well, as they utilize you for their technical point of contact through the entire sales cycle.
  • You will get to develop and tell a compelling story that will excite your customer and have them begging you to tell them more. Your story will include an amazing product demonstration, followed by a proof-of-concept, and ultimately a sale that you will take pride in being a part of.
  • You will be able to design complex email and data security solutions and be a part of the building of quotations for customer sales presentations
  • You might, periodically, be called upon to assist in professional services deployments, technical training, and industry seminars and/or trade shows
  • You will be able to provide valuable customer insight and real-world experiences to Product Management, Marketing and Product Development (Engineering) teams to help keep our solutions the best in the industry.
  • You will become an expert in Email Security Gateways, Advanced Persistent Threats, Attack Protection, Threat Response, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and what the bad guys are up to.
  • You will be helping solve one of the biggest issues to face IT in the last 20 years.
  • What you bring to the team

  • 5+ years of experience as a Senior Sales/Systems Engineer (pre-sales), preferably in the cyber-security industry
  • You have impressive experience in either secure messaging, data security or another cyber-security related field
  • Exposure to at least two of the following skill sets are recommended:Enterprise email solutions such as Exchange or Lotus Domino or working knowledge of SMTPIT security, vulnerability or risk assessments, and policy enforcementData Loss Prevention (DLP), compliance and privacyCloud security and shadow IT monitoring
  • Additional skills that are added bonuses include:Directory Services and protocols such as AD, Azure, LDAP, identity servicesEmail authentication (DNS, SPF, DKIM, DMARC)Networking and protocols such as SMTP, LDAP, HTTP, etc.CISSP or other relevant cyber-security certification is a huge plus
  • You have been a part of a sales team before or you want your career to go that direction.
  • You can thrive in a fast paced, high-energy environment.
  • You are able to work independently, adapt quickly and maintain a positive attitude
  • Strong PowerPoint and presentation skills a must
  • You are educated equivalent to a Bachelor in Computer Science, whether formally or not.
